Can I hook up an antenna to my cable box and still get internet : cordcutters

If you only want a basic package of locals, then why pay when you can get it from the air. If you want to watch HD from the main broadcasters, then again, why pay when you can get it over the air, and is much better PQ since there is very little to no compression. You’re not making any sense. The OP is already paying for cable. Obviously if he didn’t need cable he’d just have OTA. But usually all the OTA stations are also carried by the cable company, and generally in the same quality as OTA so it’s exactly the same thing. If this is the case and I haven’t heard any evidence of this not being the case in which case yes it may be worthwhile , then there is no reason to setup OTA antenna to get what you are already getting via cable. The problem here is that people just regard OTA as “yesterday’s” technology, with loads of interference, ghosting and snowy picture quality, when now that everything is going digital, the actual picture is quite stunning. This is sad, because this is exactly what the providers and their coffers want everyone to believe, so they can line their greedy pockets more from the publics mis-understanding.

Troubleshooting TV Reception Having some problems with reception? We can walk you through solutions to some of the most common issues when troubleshooting reception. The TV is not receiving any signals. Once you have properly installed the antenna, changed the input on your TV to ‘ANTENNA’, and run a channel scan, you should be receiving at least some of your local channels. If this is not the case, the reason could be one of the following:

Connect one braid from the antenna feedpoint located on the base section of the antenna to the terminal on the DXE-UN UNUN closest to the Red “+” on the label as shown in Figure 5.

You asked, How do I know what side of the balun the center conductor goes to. Thats why I said use an ohm meter. Every diagram of a off set dipole I have seen shows the center conductor on the long side the sheild on the short. Maybe there is more than one way to do it. If you are using a pre made balun, it shouldn’t matter which output wire goes to which antenna wire.

Suggestions to use an ohm meter will not be very helpful. Not all commercial pre made baluns are good. Some are pretty bad at being baluns. A perfect voltage balun would force the voltages to be equal on each terminal. A perfect current balun would force the currents to be equal at each terminal. So, it wouldn’t matter which way you hooked it up. With a good quality, high impedance current choke balun like a DX Engineering or Array Solutions or a homemade type of good design the most affordable way to get such a balun it really won’t matter much which way you hook it up.

The very high impedance of the balun makes it so that neither antenna wire can make currents flow on the coax, so there’s no distinction between the wire that winds around the core and connects to the center conductor and the wire that winds around the core and connects to the shield. A good current or “choke” balun makes the output terminals “float” with respect to the input terminals.

The signal is captured by an antenna, transmitted via coax cable RG6 , and then received by an over-the-air tuner, which converts the signal to USB output. Availability and performance of over-the-air content can vary based on your location. For example, you may not be able to use an over-the-air tuner if you live in remote areas like a desert region or a valley surrounded by mountains. See the following section to learn how to find out if there is over-the-air coverage in your area.

Note the tuning head at the top matching unit at the bottom, with the spreader supported by the old felt tip pen lids The antenna folded up and ready to travel Note the spreader in the foreground made from polystyrene tubing Introduction Described here is a simple multi-band magnetic loop antenna designed for 20, 30 and 40 metres. For its size, the performance of the antenna always astounds me, although it is never going to replace a Yagi!

The control head mounts three or four tuning capacitors and a band change switch. This switch selects a capacitor for each band with the capacitors I chose, I needed two for 40m. Each capacitor resonates the loop on one band. A piece of string is attached to the top of the mounting plate to support the antenna during operation. The feedpoint for the antenna is at the bottom of the loop, and consists of a matching transformer housed in a 35mm film canister.

This matching transformer is wound on an FT toroid. The RG58 passes through the toroid to form the secondary of the matching transformer. During my experiments, I found that the turns ratio for the primary changed from band to band, with 2 turns on 20m, 3 turns on 30m and 5 turns on 40m. I used a three position slide switch, which I picked up at a rally, and wound a five turn primary onto the toroid using hookup wire.

How to hook up both Cable and HD antenna

If your company has a MacBook computer with a malfunctioning internal Wi-Fi antenna, or if you want to switch up your mode of wireless connectivity, you can do so by hooking up an external antenna. Many mobile phone providers offer satellite Internet connectivity via external USB keys with built-in satellite antennas. Others offer larger, dish-like antennas designed with the same purpose in mind.

Majority of the electronic devices nowadays don’t use the low-quality cable hook you want to watch the media on your new HDTV, you need to pass the coaxial signal to it from an Antenna or a cable box or an HDMI Cable.

Antennas Home-made antennas can greatly improve the performance of AM and FM radios, short-wave receivers, and scanners. If you are a talk-radio fan then experiment with the AM band antennas and you will be able to hear shows from all over the country with surprising clarity. Short-wave receivers are always coping with weak signals and they must have a good antenna to perform adequately.

Scanners can pick up local police and two-way radio with the little telescoping antenna provided but with good antennas a scanner becomes an amazing ear on the world nearby. No pre-amp, filter or other receiver refinement offers anywhere near the level of performance improvement t that a well-designed antenna offers. The results can be quite satisfying, leaving no doubt that the project was well worth the effort.

Active MHz Hula-Loop Antenna for Shortwave In the past, designs that incorporated an amplifier in the antenna were called “antennafiers” so perhaps this is a “loopifier”. The differential amplifier solves matching issues and the varactor tuning gives excellent out-of-band rejection for even cheap receivers. I think the good common-mode rejection from the differential amplifier eliminates the need for a shield, too.

This active antenna for the shortwave band provides surprising performance, even indoors. As the name implies, the main loop is made from a Hula-Hoop with the metallic paint stripped off and a single turn of 14AWG copper wire inserted inside the hoop. There isn’t any need to remove the paint; mine was flaking and I didn’t like the looks. Half way through I regretted my decision! These hoops are basically thin-walled plumbing tubing with a water-tight connector holding the ends together.

Sex September 13, A fascinating and sexy proposal lured me away As with all of our true sex stories, some identifying details and all names have been changed to protect the wicked. I was 22 or something, just out of college. I had a crappy job and was living in a pit hole on the Lower East Side with a Wall Street roommate who was never there.

If your company has a MacBook computer with a malfunctioning internal Wi-Fi antenna, or if you want to switch up your mode of wireless connectivity, you can do so by hooking up an external antenna.

If laptops in a business environment are getting weak or intermittent Wi-Fi signals, productivity may be hindered. One possible solution to improving the wireless signals received by laptops is to connect a Wi-Fi antenna to the laptop’s wireless card. Oftentimes, Wi-Fi antennas will be less expensive than wireless repeaters — another method of increasing a wireless signal throughout an area — which is better for your company’s bottom line. Attaching Directly to Computer 1.

Determine which type of wireless card is installed on your computer. If you have a mini PCIe card, continue to Step 2. Purchase a wireless network antenna that attaches to your mini PCIe connector. This is usually a radio frequency connector that looks similar to the connector used for cable TV. Screw the antenna on to the PCI connection port.

Introduction The purpose of this section is to provide the information necessary to make rational decisions on products, with the goal being to connect to the Internet from your RV. The idea is to make sure that all of your local devices – computers, tablets, wireless printers, TV, DVR, etc. In a home environment meaning a “fixed” environment only one method is typically used to connect to the Internet – often that is DSL or Cable.

This is typically a “cellular router”, meaning that the router can have a cellular aircard plugged into it and use that as a method to connect to the Internet. Ideally, only the router “knows” about the multiple methods of connecting to the Internet. It manages all of those methods and presents a single network to your devices.

Oct 19,  · Hey, Moonlight. I can’t think of a reason not to give it a try. It won’t hurt anything. It just might not give you the reception that you want, which I believe is what led to the statement from the other source that you shouldn’t use the same antenna for TV and FM radio.

First, you click a link, say, for Home Theater Receivers which brought you here. The first page contains a short introduction and will probably start by identifying components, inputs, outputs, and etc. After that, you’ll find some navigation links at the bottom of every page allowing you to continue to the next page in the How-To or select any page via in the how-to via a drop-down box. Continue reading below to learn how to hook up your surround sound receiver.

When you’re finished, you should have your receiver, speakers, TV, and other components Blu-Ray player, etc. Its the “brain” of the show.

Loop antenna

Rating This little bugger far exceeded my expectations! I was amazed at the number of stations available and the quality of the reception. Directions were easy to follow and set up was a breeze. I highly recommend it.

Even though the GE Attic Mount Antenna is an omni-directional antenna (it only picks up signals from the direction it is pointed in) I was still able to pick up three addititional channels that are pretty much in the opposite direction (pointed degrees ESE, still able to pick up channels from degrees NNW)/5().

Take a look at the block diagram above and notice where the antenna tuner and SWR meter are in relation to the flow of the RF signal coming from the transceiver. Note that the rf is actually flowing in both directions and not just toward the antenna. Your station may not use them You will notice that You just learned how to hook it all up! Just remember that our goal is to make the transceiver think all is well, and in order to “read” the SWR and Power out pertaining to “all is well” Now Let’s learn how to “tune” that “tuner” Most antenna tuners have an inductance rotary switch and two capacitors.

In some antenna tuners the inductance switch is replaced with a continuously variable inductance, popularly known as a roller inductor.
